LATE EDITION: All the Classic News that’s Fit to Print!
FLASH: You’ve heard of the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe. Well, Universal Studios is about to launch their Classic Monster Initiative Universe (they were, in fact, the original home of Frankenstein, Dracula & The Mummy) with Tom Cruise bowing as The Mummy in June, 2017. Now Johnny Depp has been inked to play The Invisible Man!
Speaking of Monsters, the world of Animation mourns the passing of Daniel Gerson, writer of Monsters, Inc and Big Hero 6. The wordsmith was only 49, and had been battling brain cancer for quite some time.

In archival news, Eastman Museum rescued hundreds of Indian films. Not classics, they range in age from 2 to 16 years, but they were already in a bad state, and headed for destruction.
Ever heard of Detective Coke Ennyday? You haven’t?! (Don’t feel bad, hardly anybody has!) He was the creation of Douglas Fairbanks, along with Tod Browning and DW Griffith(!) who created this “drug trip short” (yes, you read it right – a drug trip short from 1916) called The Mystery of The Leaping Fish, about a Sherlock Holmes type of character who is insanely addicted to Cocaine. Oh to be able to view this rarely seen comedy!
And finally, we at the Retro Set try to stay away form politics, but this was too good to pass up. and, yeah, it IS, kinda, sorta “classic.”
